FAQs

Here are answers to some questions we get a lot.

Are there any collection or record limits?

Nope, at least not in the way you're probably thinking. Each instance comes with a certain amount of storage that is shared between your database, file storage, backup storage, and the application itself. You're free to use this storage as you see fit. Even our smallest plan will potentially allow for millions of records, though the actual number will depend on the structure of your data and whether or not you're storing file attachments locally.

Which plan should I choose?

If you aren't sure where to begin, then the answer is probably with the Good plan. Even as our smallest instance, it's very capable and you'll likely find that you won't have to upgrade for quite a while (if ever).

If you're migrating over an existing application, then choose the instance that is closest to the platform you're coming from.

Is there a free tier available?

Core is different from other platforms you may be used to. Each app built on core runs on its own dedicated virtual machine (VM). If we were to introduce a free tier, we would have to pay for all those VMs ourselves, which isn't feasible for a bootstrapped startup like ours.

How can you offer so much bandwidth!?

At Cloud Canal, we're working hard to abolish the no-code tax. If you aren't used to working in the world of coding and cloud computing, then you might not be aware of just how restrictive CMS or bandwidth limits are on most no-code platforms.

Can I use Core without coding knowledge?

Absolutely! Everything in Core comes with a visual interface. As Core continues to grow, we'll add new features that will allow you to expand the capabilities of your web app by either continuing to use that no-code interface or by writing code directly. The choice is yours.

How can I build a front end to use Core with?

Your Core app automatically exposes a REST API that you can call from your front end. You can use this API in any way you want, but we highly recommend that you try it out with one of our other tools, Connect. Connect is a free, low-code library for building web apps using attributes and works nicely with site builders like Webflow.

What if I need more storage?

Each of our plans comes with a certain amount of storage included. We make it easy to expand this amount by letting you hook up your own cloud storage (using AWS S3). In fact, we highly recommend that you do. By storing your files and backups in S3, the entirety of your instance storage can be used by the database.

If you aren't familiar with S3, not to worry. Setting up a "bucket" is straightforward and there are plenty of guides online on how to do it.

I have more questions.
